Kit review , MOD Survival Knife.

I recently bought a MOD Survival knife and took it out for the first time yesterday.
Alot of people slag them off but i thought it performed well, i prefere a heavy knife and it certinly is a lump, great for chopping etc .Useing double handed it was great for stripping birch bark. I also used it to dig a small hole which it did no problem.
I dont think it would be that good for small detailed work but i have my mora frost for that.
I added a para cord loop in the hole in the base of the handle.
There are better quality more expensive knives out there but if you want a reasonably priced heavy duty no nonsense knife for camp duties its well worth a look.

I bought mine from kitmonster , look around though as i have seen them cheaper elsewhere but i didnt want to wait so went to the shop for mine.

Have to agree with Bulldogs view, lots of cheaper equipment, knives, tools, clothing etc works just as well as top brand kit,

I have an old heavy duty knife, it don't have a name or anything, but its sharpened and looked after by me and its cuts, chops and strips most things in its path, cost me a tenner 2 years back

I do a lot of mountain climbing in north Wales and the Cairngorms and my friends and i chuckle when we see the "weekend warriors" turn up in their "North Face" gear....pub clothing we call it

I got this knife Ive had for 2 years now very well built knife. Perfect for spliting small timber for the fire.

I've had one of these for years, issued in 97 when I still served.
The knife is tried and tested as a multi use - it's heavy and solid to allow for the heavier work and has a sharper edge toward the handle.
It's probably not the best out there- I have managed to snap one side of the wooden handle, which leaves a few large welded rivets, but it's easily repairable!
As a big solid lump, you can't go wrong!

Not that i am an expert, but it doesnt appear to be particularly comfortable. I do prefer a heavy bade for the heavy work, I currently use a 'schrade schf3', and use a mora or a Martinez Albainox blade for smaller works.

My wife got me one I use it for everything feather sticks to splitting small logs. To make it a comfortable I wrapped some paracord on the handle.

Bear in mind - there are proper MOD knives, and cheaper clones. The official ones, are much better and still pretty cheap, I have read that the WEBTEX variant isn't up to spec.
