Re: Got my first crossbow
What did you tell the local firearms team? As nowadays you need a good reason to own a weapon, is 'prepping' a good excuse? lolMagenta16v wrote:Am already on the case lol
I have spoken to the firearms team that covers my area and confirmed my counter Signature is ok
Before I go any further
Just have to convince the wife
I just joined my local firearms club and am target shooting
Re: Got my first crossbow
when I got my shotgun licence I was told that the fact that I wanted a licence was reason enough to give me one. It can only help if you mention that you will be going clay shooting as well, which will be good practise anyway.

Really ? I thought at the very least they would give you a good grilling as to why/what/what for etcHaplo2481 wrote:when I got my shotgun licence I was told that the fact that I wanted a licence was reason enough to give me one. Id buy one for target shooting, that's all, and clay pigeon now and then.
Obviously I have a clean criminal record and all that, lol

You don't get grilled by anyone. Clay pigeon is fine although you don't need "good reason" to own a shotgun like you do with rifles. Even then being a member of a club is good reason as is vermin control.

Great ill apply then, shotgun/rifle night is wed at my club, was going to pop in tonight to have a go.firepower wrote:You don't get grilled by anyone. So shotgun - fill form in
Rifle - needs good reason I assume?
And without spraying my personal details all over the net - and excuse the possible daft question, I was on some meds a year ago for anxiety/mild anxiety related stuff (not gonna hang myself haha, just anxiety in crowded places stuff which I guess a few people get) - would I need to declare that on the forms and if so would it be a problem ? - would it stop the application being accepted? (i.e. technically I had mental health meds prescribed - although it wasn't much.) It was stuff they also use to treat people for persistent migraines so it was a 'general drug'
Off them now however.
Apologies for the straight up question but you can see why I would wonder.
Re: Got my first crossbow
Check BASC website for good info on application for FAC. http://www.basc.org.uk/
Typically just joining a rifle club and then applying won't work. Normally you'll be expected to be a member in 'good standing' for 12 months and attend regularly (using borrowed / rented firearms in the mean time), this allows the current club members to be happy with you/your attitude. No club wants to be associated with a nutter (not saying your are !)
This isn't the only path to acquiring a license, target shooting, vermin control, deer stalking etc are all suitable routes. It is all very dependant on your personal circumstances and the area you live in.
As for medical issues, discuss with your doc and get advice if I were you. If you don't declare something that turns out to be relavant it might screw up your application badly. Be upfront and minor issues, now determined by your doctor to be succssfully treated shouldn't be a problem (he might however have to confirm this in writing).
BASC advice seems to be 'if you are deemed medically safe to drive, you should be deemed medically safe to own a firearm.'

Re: Got my first crossbow
Well yeah defo and fully understand that, im happy using air rifles at the moment, the aim for me, excuse the pun is to become a good shot, practice and stuff. Anything bigger can come later, Ill approach my doc if and when needed
As mentioned im enjoying target practice with air pistols/rifles and my dad passed on his old Benjamin Shermin HR81 air rifle to me, it's requiring I take it apart and rebuild it, but im really looking forward to that, beautiful bit of engineering and abit of a family heirloom, the wood is still in great condition as well, just the piston/springs etc all need dismantling, refurbed and rebuilt, may even put a blog about it on here if anyone is in to that sort of thing
