Any idea on a use for lots of wood shavings

Hi folks

I have a large black bin full of verry fine wood shavings its almost like dust more like powder than shavings im going to run a few tests and see how usefull it is combined with a flint and steel might be good not sure i used it to soak up water in the pigeon loft but no longer have the birds so its no use to me

your ideas are wellcome also if it turns out to be usefull combined with a flint and steal ( if mods allow this if not remove this ) i`d be happy to bag some up and give to others if they are willing to pay a stamp

I'm guessing the obvious use would be as tinder for fire-starting. Also absorbtion for clearing up liquids. Also insulation of some kind.

Certainly don't throw it away, I can see it being useful somehow!

Wood 'dust' is great for smoking food, but you have to know its origins and you probably wouldn't want to use anything that had been tannelised.

Mix it with shredded paper and water. Compress it into briquettes.

If you set up alternative sanitation would be good? sprinkle after you tinkle!!

And once it has soaked up something nitrogen-rich,like urine, it will compost very well. If youvare a mechanic of any kind it os good for soaking up oil. You could find a local poultry or rabbit keeper and let them have it. ( I would take it off you!)

unclear of what type of wood it came from i have to agree it absorbs liquids verry well hence why i used it in the pigeon loft, rain stopped me running a test with flint and steal though i suspect its to fine and will smother its self, its so fine it looks like liquid when shaken in the container

You could build a composting toilet and use it with that.

Well the test with flint and steel was a failure it did not catch,i even used matches but it failed to take hold its just to fine i`l hold onto some of it

What firepower said, soak it in wet paper and add paraffin and make briquettes? Offer it on gumtree or freecycle for wabbits?
