Recurve bow? Go for a good riser (handle) and cheaper limbs. That way as your strength increases, you can afford to up the poundage on the limbs. It's a *very* good idea to go to a shop to try one out - even if you end up buying online. If it's a good place, they won't mind you having a go. If they do mind, then they are not a good place. You would need to be measured for arrows too, although you can do this yourself. But I would get measured properly because a too short arrow is really dangerous!Sandella wrote: Also been looking for a good starter bow online which I will buy when funds allow.

I took delivery of two 1520 litre Roto tanks, going to sink them down a few meters (not burying it) with breeze block walls and stick some decking over it, so it looks like a raised decking area. I'll run the roof run off from the house and garage to it. I've rented a mini digger for next weekend, so I'll mark it all out tomorrow.

Sounds interesting. Could you post some pics of the whole process please?metatron wrote:I took delivery of two 1520 litre Roto tanks, going to sink them down a few meters (not burying it) with breeze block walls and stick some decking over it, so it looks like a raised decking area. Yeah can do. I figure if nothing else we had a hosepipe ban this year (not for that long), the water will come in use for the gardon, fish pond and washing the cars.preppingsu wrote:Sounds interesting. Practiced using my ten dollar pocket UVC wand to purify water. Looks like its gonna work nicely if water goes bad or I have only got stored water to fall back on.

I've been in touch with the local amateur radio club to enquire about training to get a license. I've also downloaded a free training programme to help me learn morse code. http://www.g4fon.net/
Ham radio and morse could both be useful - it'll be fun learning anyway
Cheers

Ofgem recently released a report saying that blackouts and powercuts are now inevitable and in 2015 the UK may be left in the dark!! Look at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19842401 on the BBC news website. Hyundai make extremely good generators at really good prices. The DHY6000SE is a really good 5.2kw silent backup generator, which can be found on a website called http://www.toolsandpowertools.co.uk. Pefect for preparing for the cold winter months that lay ahead!!bigdan wrote:definately getting a generator next week. i vaguely listened to something on the radio today about there being power cuts later this year and next year. has any one got a favourite brand or type ?

Morse code is no longer part of the test, but yeah it can still be useful.gary5wift wrote:I've been in touch with the local amateur radio club to enquire about training to get a license. I've also downloaded a free training programme to help me learn morse code. http://www.g4fon.net/

Hi Metatron
I thought there was still a small morse element. Either way I reckon I'll still have a go at learning it, I understand that morse signals quite often get through when speach etc won't. It could be useful but I think it will also be fun to learn
Cheers
