Speaking as one with a genuine interest in sporting shooting of all kinds and archery, not to mention being a collector of all kinds of sharp and often pointy things (bearing in mind and totally agreeing with yourjoin your local clay pigeon club, they are very friendly and helpful and moreover, cheaper than you think.
statement) I do only have those as tools for camping/survival purposes, and am painfully aware that I am probably as much use as a chocolate teapot if it came to defending myself with one.You cannot defend yourself properly against a knife, and if you have one around the house for self defence then be prepered to have it turned against you
I actually do like the idea of owning all manner of firearms and recently found out that club membership of a local .22 range would cost £150 per person per year a jacket is another £100 a glove £25 and a sling £30, ammo is £5 for 50 rounds which all must be kept at the club, where initially I would be loaning a rilfe, needless to say that is out of my price range probably being taken far too seriously ( in terms of competative shooting with other clubs) for someone who wants to enjoy the experience of target shooting I am thinking air rifle in the back garden is still the prefered option.
I am digressing slightly form my point and question just how much is cheaper than I think? My kids say that about their xmas pressies, so an example would be greatly appreciated, simularly does anyone know how to go about researching local farms needing/willing to have shooting enthusiasts come and help with vermin control?
Also keep those exapmles of how much these things cost to do comming for clay pigeon, target shooting , archery, air gun clubs, anything like that, in real money terms would be great for all to get an idea of a direction to go in.
There's a matter of reasonable self defence here and now, for an intruder for most of us is a SHTF scenario, for which we must if we want to call ourselves preppers, be prepared for, I do it by having a bloody good burglar alarm, which warms me of inturders ( just internal alarms loud enough for them to hear and all the lighting in an out comming on) a Rottie then me with whatever is to hand, thus far nothing as from the panel I can see where the attack originates,
and if I pick up a torch it's to see where they are fleeing to, so it's fair to say for now I am prepared and have back up intruder detection for prolonged power outages too.
Like you say though it is a lot different to a multiple attacker /shtf scenario, which in my inner city terraced house a shotgun could be a good deterent but in truth little more use against multiple attackers in a full on SHTF scenario unless we're talking zombies of course, then I may last a few minutes longer
