EMP/Solar flare

Post by arnieh »

A thought, what are the implications if any on wind up lanterns, torches, radios and other such technologies in the event of an E.M.P be it natural or a hostile attack on this green and pleasant land of ours. Do we need to start protecting these items or should they be OK?

Isn't it *electronics* that get fried in such cases? Purely electrical stuff should be fine, shouldn't it? It doesn't run because there's no central power ... :?:

May be worth protecting some stuff, but without huge funds to have a spare everything electronic I'm at a loss, weaponized EMP would be a suprise :o  :tinfoil I think I'd befriend some steampunks ;)
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

I'm planning to protect an old laptop against a CME - all it'll cost me is £2 for a roll of heavy duty aluminium foil. A weapon, tho ... thats a whole other level.

remember wrapping things in just foil wont help the item has to be insulated from the metal by something non conductive such as polystyrene or wood
