Ive just been reading through alot of this and i havent seen methalated spitits once. do they just call it something else in the US or

I use Meths in mine, and you are correct, it is called something else.

they call it Denatured alcohol , we call alcohol sburning stoves methylated spirit burners

I've got two pepsi max cans sitting here, was going to have a go, but looked in the cupboard and its white spirit i have no meths, bugger.
