this is not my strong point by any means so im tempted to buy this

(hope the address works i just copied it in loks long to me though) before i spend £100 please either tell me im mad (politely) or agree it would do a job. What do you all have if anything to use to get info and stay in touch in case anything happens. I assume people are against sat phones? Any advice well received!

Its very expensive for something that doesn't look like it even does shortwave. It would be cheaper/better to buy a better radio and a cheap pair of walky talkies

Yes, your link works, but that's the extent of my knowledge here, so hopefully someone will be along shortly to help us both!

However, I do know you need a ham radio license to transmit and that isn't mentioned in that listing. I'm guessing then, that is is just a unit that can communicate with another or other pmr radios?

If that is the case then I better uses for my £100.

Like I said, I'm just guessing as I don't really know enough about this stuff.

Its just PMR446 its license free, its the same technology and power as any other PMR446 radio, 446.00625 to 446.09375 at 500mW.

I do get that these are wind up and as such are a good call, i've always wondered if anyone will produce wind up handhelds?

i've been searching for a new VHF/UHF handheld 'ham' radio that takes normal batteries, there are a few, but how to charge batteries of any sort is the question?
