Lightning safety

Post by Arzosah »

I went onto the American Preppers Network this morning, while I was taking a break, looking for American prepper reaction to you-know-what news this morning. What I *actually* looked at, however, was much more directly prepper-related, this article of theirs about lightning strikes:

http://americanpreppersnetwork.com/2012 ... afety.html

Its a nice little article in itself, but it also links in to their National Weather Service Lightning Safety site, which looks really big.

I knew about *deaths* from lightning strikes, but I didn't know about such large numbers of such debilitating injuries ... as our weather gets more extreme, this is something to just bear in mind ...

Interesting article. That pic of the burns on that guys arm is freaky!

I have a friend who was struck by lightening, twice! He works as a caretaker for a school, and one day he was moving the big metal bins about in the yard when he was hit by a bolt of lightening. Not sure if it was the same case on both counts, or to what the extent of his injuries were as I haven't actually seen him for some time and I only heard the story from mutual friends. I can only imagine that it came as a shock to him. (Sorry!) It is a true story.

I would say that we should always be aware of the dangers of being struck by lightening during a storm, it could happen to anyone at any time. I certainly wouldn't want to be whacked with several million volts from a bolt from above.

Ace. :)

I know it's not the main point of the article but... That pattern on his arm is awesome!

That pattern is really beautiful, isn't it!

It could happen to any of us in a storm, its true, at any time - I was in the mountains at the back of Ephesus in Turkey one time, outside of tourist season, and very nearly got myself killed (well, several times on that trip, actually, but lets not dwell  )

It struck me tho    (sorry) that in a shtf situation, we'd have no ICU to be taken to, no blue lights to take care of us on the scene - there's a real issue there that everyday accidents become more deadly when we don't have the backup that we currently enjoy

My Mother as a little girl, lived in a house in North Derbyshire that was struck by lightning. It burnt to the ground and they lost everything. They had the clothes they stood in.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Robert Frost.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.
