Some prepping items

Post by elvengate »

Hi All,

Time to share here a bit.

We have found some items that we have purchased that have helped us with our prep.

None of the links I am providing are intended to support any supplier. They are intended to show what we have found and bought in our prep. They are for illustration only and are examples of some things we see as essential in terms of long term prep. We have tried all of these in our daily meals and they are part of our daily food also. If you find better deals on these we would REALLY Like to know.

We are omnivores yet understand what value dried and properly vacuum sealed ingredients can provide in terms of long term storage. All of these have been broken down into 1 1/2 to 2 Cup portions and vacuum sealed in bags at that size.

1. A Vacuum Sealer is an essential bit of kit. We use it to
prepare the following items in pre-packaged serving sizes.
2. Dried Red Kidney Beans 5kg Bags - http://www.buywholefoodsonline.co.uk/or ... s-5kg.html
3. Freeze Dried Veg Mix - http://www.buywholefoodsonline.co.uk/dr ... -10kg.html
4. Mixed Dried Sprouting Mix - http://www.buywholefoodsonline.co.uk/or ... x-5kg.html
5. Mixed Dried Beans - http://www.buywholefoodsonline.co.uk/or ... -bulk.html
6. Soya Chunks and Mince - http://www.survivalwholefoods.co.uk/sho ... t=TVP&db=w
7. Buy rice in 25kg bags from your local asian market
8. Buy Whole grain flour in bulk from your local aisian market - (Add water and you have flat bread mix)

These are a foundation to build upon for us. Of surprise is that by saving a penny here or there you can get these items together and build a foundation to your prep food supply that will last a long time for you.

Not a magic answer here, just trying to share knowledge and experience.

Thanks

Thanks for that both of you. I usually use Suma and stock up twice a year but will "Favourite" this for next time to compare prices.

No worries

I am glad to share and learn.

Another thing I suggest people do is to look back in history a bit and find useful information that may be of help.

As some examples. Look at traditional preserving techniques for hints on how to manage without that freezer and fridge.

A favorite of mine is to look at traditional ways of building shelter. I am putting together a tool box that contains what I need to construct a small log cabin. ( I am ahead of the curve on this due to my being able to be part of building them in the States ) The skills and knowledge are not a huge leap, you should not be daunted by the task. A person or group of persons that are not afraid of a little work and have a small amount of common sense can tackle the challenge of creating a durable shelter with good results. The key is not to rush and build with durability and quality in mind.

Just food for thought here.

Thanks
