Vaccination

Post by Leo1 »

How many on here, have gone out of there way to get vaccination. That would be usefull. Saying during, say a Flu outbreak say something like pneumococcal and after a shtf type scenario saying Cholera.

Having been a pin cushion for 22 years in the Army, I now avoid them as much as possible.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

I don't think that "they" can inoculate against everything and if a new mutation occurs, then there is little that can be done about it until a vaccine is developed that takes into account the new shape of the virus in question. So maybe its just better to have a good hygiene routine and to be as healthy as your own personal imitations can allow.

That's weird: Arzosah - we must've posted at the same time as it has lost mine!!!!

I was going to say that I have had all the relevant innoculations for going abroad (whatever they are)

I have had the pneumonia jab and get the yearly flu jab (am coeliac)

I take the view that if the vaccines are available, why not have them? Better to be prepared although I have heard that this years flu jab may not be totally effective as there is a second strain out there.

This is kind of how I feel. I should have the flu jab because I am asthmatic, but I steer clear mainly because of a total terror of needles (childish I know at 34, but I basically end up having massive heebie-jeebie attacks - tears, the lot), but also I'm never that trusting of their efficacy. One year I went in for my asthma review and the nurse offered me the jab. I turned it down and she said 'Good. This year the virus is a weird one that might mutate. There's not much point in having it now. Wait and see if it changes.' Last year's flu had a 'severe respiratory infection' running alongside it - I went to the doc with the tail end of the lergy to get asthma management advice and he said that although they'd had a high uptake of flu jab, the surgery had still been busy with people coming in with this really nasty infection. And most of them had been inoculated.

Have the flu jab by all means, but it's not a magic bullet. The 'catch it, bin it, kill it' campaign, however, is a damn fine thing. I just wish more people were careful with their hygiene.

My mum went in to get a tetanus jab a while back after cutting herself badly and was told that over her life she'd probably had enough tetanus jabs to keep her safe for life so she wasn't given one! The tetanus jab is the one I probably should get really. I can't remember when I got my last one (see above terror disclaimer  ). Crikey, the thought is bringing me out in a cold sweat...

I am not talking against the flu virus. I am talking about complication of having flu. The most common complication of seasonal flu is a bacterial chest infection. Occasionally, this can become serious and develop into pneumonia. Bacterial Pneumonia Caused Most Deaths in 1918 Influenza Pandemic. As to Cholera. Even in a short shtf, scenario. This could make a come back here in the UK due to poor sanitation.

Le Mouse. As a Asthma i think you should speak to you GP, or practice nurse. To getting the pneumococcal jab.

And a Tetanus jab is a must have to anyone who is going to bug out ito the countryside.
