Card or Cash

Post by SuperDude »

Ok so I've been stockpiling now for 2 years (tinned food/pasta/rice etc...), but recently became concerned about having my supplies confiscated.

Although keeping food isn't illegal (yet) if the SHTF then it would be logical to assume that there would be some sort of resource acquirement and management plan in place, this may include raids on residential properties (leaving my family in the same que for rations/handouts as everyone else - assuming I survive the asset confiscation procedure).

I thought I was being clever by not using the supermarket that asks for a loyalty card, but recently noticed that I had been using my debit card. and worse still, I realized that i had been using a voucher (price promise) to part-pay for supplies, so with a bit of cross system queries any agency dangerous enough to have access to both the bank and superstore systems would know exactly what I have and when I bought it.

Am I being too paranoid, can you be too paranoid?

I always withdraw my cash from the bank and then do all my buys in cash for much the same reason, and reduces anyones ability to track my buying profile.

If you are buying a couple of tins and water on a weekly basis i don't think you will be on the radar of any govt body raiding your supplies as they could think it is just for weekly consumption. But if you are buying vast amounts of tinned food and water on a weekly basis then i would pay by cash only and without using your loyalty card or vouchers off. All your hard work down the drain if the govt takes your stockpile. You could also hide a good percentage of your supplies just in case.

I wouldn't worry, you can explain all your purchases in that you were:

Buying for Cub/Scout camping trips

Gave it to homeless shelters

Ate it all.

Split your preps into various hiding places, leave some in the open so you can show that you use said items.

If the SHTF the last thing on the Governments mind is your 50kg of rice.

I've worked out that this year alone using my Tescos loyalty card has netted me £100 in vouchers - that'll go on shelving and storage boxes in the New Year.

Win win for me.

Thanks for the responses, its sometimes easy to get carried away. Its great to have this forum to bounce ideas of other people, rather than let them grow unchecked.

I feel a little less paranoid now, and yes I agree logically anyone with enough resources to trace an individuals shopping habits, would have a lot more pressing matters to deal with.

I'll take on the advice also though of splitting it up, and putting some aside as a sacrifice (just in-case - if the law requires that someone empty's my cubards they will leave happy and have little reason to return).

Thanks All. :)
