HI all
i dont know if this has been asked/ answered previously or elsewhere on the site but what is the law in relation to a bow and arrow? could i stand in my back garden and train or would i have a couple of armed visitors?
Bows?
Re: Bows?
I think you could, but you would be well advised to make sure your arrows don't go outside your boundaries should you miss, doubtless there is a ( or a few) laws on the subject, also probably advisable to not shoot arrows in the direction of anybody or any living thing regardless of your backstop.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Re: Bows?
You have to shoot towards your own property to make sure that you do not overshoot and injure someone / damage other property.
I'd recommend joining an Archery club, as not only will you be able to practice and have training/advice, they will recommend on insurance etc.

Re: Bows?
You should make sure you have a back-stop. But other than that you are ok as long as you are on your own land or have permission from the land owner. Im sure you know it is illegal to hunt with them. After reading the law it seems you are ok as long as you just use common scene and don't hunt game with it =)
Sorry looked all over to find more and a reference but seems to be no good sources

although i do have a few local cats in my area, and there is one that i would like to off - i am only a beginner, i would be aiming at the shed at the end of the garden, garden is about 50?ft long, and 10ft wide with low fences so i could see when ppl are passing.
do u know where i could find out the uk laws on this subject?

Don't forget to check local bye laws as well as this can make something perfectly legal one side of a road and yet with a boundary running down a road the people living on the other side of the road are prevented from same activity.
In fact if you live in Chester there is a local bylaw, still in existence, that a "Welsh person found within the city walls after sunset can be shot with a crossbow"

Re: Bows?
Welsh people can take their chances - they can shoot back. But anybody caught shooting a cat should be injected with bubonic plague and then reminded why we keep cats!

Firstly, it IS illegal to kill domestic cats.
Secondly, what kind of vile, sadistic individual would want to do so, legal or not? Jesus, the mind boggles...
Re: Bows?
You actually said that there is one you would like to off! Then in the same sentence talked about shooting with a bow and arrow. Your intent did seem pretty clear...julessheep797 wrote:I didnt say i would off it!! you have read my post wrong - i love cats and have 2 of my own! i said i WOULDNT MIND offing it but not that i ever actually would, and it was meant to be a jokey comment not a statement of intent!
Anyhoo - I'm very glad to hear that you're not about to attempt to shoot any of the neighborhood cats. We have some very passionate cat lovers on this forum as you've probably just gleaned!
