I have just very recently become interested in the idea of Prepping which goes against my natural inclinations which is to take every day as it comes.
I have to confess I have not even started yet, except to plan in my head what my priorities to store will be and how to achieve it - both financially and without my family and friends trying to get me sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
The Nat Geo series both inspired and appalled me. I want to have enough food and supplies to see my nearest and dearest fed and watered in a crisis I want nothing to do with weapons.
I am also interested in the idea of lobbying local councillors etc on the idea of community preparedness I want to know from them what plans exist (if any) for prolonged power cuts or an unexpected natural disaster.
I am not really interested in trying to create some fortress to fend starving people off in some savage world that I would not want to survive in.

I am not sure why Preppers in the UK are not putting pressure on politicians to ensure we can ALL eat and drink if terrible emergencies arise. We pay our taxes and national insurance so THEY should be leading preparations for disasters. Individuals should of course take responsibility but so should local and national government. We have a right to know what their plans are and if they have none then why not.

Perhaps a National not for profit NGO should be established by concerned "Preppers" to educate individuals and communities to prepare for REALISTIC emergencies and crises and to lobby the powers that be to make better plans and provisions for ALL of us , and also to dispel the developing media image of people being prepared for a crisis being gun-toting mad yanks in combat jackets.
Anyway that is me and I'm sure many of you will disagree with me but I am well used to that
I have lurked here for a few weeks and learned very useful and interesting things and I'd like to thank you all for that.

It was this forum which convinced me that not all Preppers are nuts.
