Hello from Leicester!

Post by bigmoose1111 »

Hi everyone,

Have been prepping for a few years now, and have joined as I'm getting bored of doing it by myself! Looking to share thoughts and learn from others. :)

See you around,

I really should be doing some work but, as I'm anxiously waiting a visitor bringing a box of chocolates (HANDS OFF, LIL, THEY'RE MINE!), I'm welcoming new members!

Bigmoose. Are you really a big moose? Are you over 18? What's that in human years? Are you prepping solo or for a family? What sort of job do mooses (or is it meeses?) do? Do you require a special backpack for your BOB?

I'm hobo, not because I'm a homeless (or hopeless) vagabond, rather I got my name from a Captin Beefheart song. Captain who? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Beefheart
I'm prepping with my Mrs and 2 kids for small things like getting ill, powercuts etc., though long term I forsee a slow decline in the quality of life in society as a whole, so I'm learning to grow and store food, investing in small scale solar, wood-based cooking and heating, and security for the house.
This morning I'm checking dates and repacking our BOBs. They live by the front door and have actually been used once when we had to evacuate with only 5 minutes notice!

Anyway, WELCOME!

Hi everyone,

thanks for the warm vibes! :)

I am a security researcher for my day job. Which basically means I look for 'vulnerabilities' in technology, and then offer solutions on how to block them before the bad guys find them!

I'm 23 years young and ironically not very big, and embarrassingly was introduced to prepping via some pretty far fetched conspiracy theories 4-5 years ago now. At that age, you're trying to find anything to attach to I suppose. But as a result I did develop a passion for prepping for more 'sane' reasons :)

I'm prepping for myself and my partner. We're fortunate to live in a close knit part on the edge of the city of Leicester so our plans don't involve bugging out into the small woodlands that surrounds us. However we spend spare time developing self sustainable skills that will come in useful!

Unfortunately testing technology for security holes won't be to useful in a SHTF situation.. lol :)
