How can I improve my prepping?

Post by ExpectTheWorst »

Tools: Coldsteel Kukri Machete, Gerber gator knife, Crossbow w/spare parts and 13 arrows (Going to invest in an SMK XS20 airrifle for small game)

Food: 20 cans atm, 1kg sugar, dried milk and 70 bottles of water.

Utensils: Ghillie kettle for purifying, Crusader cooking cup and bits and pieces.

Other: Cheap noodles, pasta, tarp, seeds, paracord, spare knives, hammer, canteen, dry bags, mess kits, beef jerky, food book, rabbit snare, wire, matches, flint etc.

Just wondering what i could add to my things that i could stock up on?

Im doing my best on food on a budget as i dont have a lot of money.

Thanks guys.

Lose the weapons, call them tools?

Weapons are seen more as offensive and not the image liked by anyone.
Stop, Read, absorb, understand, reply.

Map and compass.
Bug-out location.
Heating.
Cooking.
Pasta and rice can extend the cans even further.
Clothing for warmth.
Water proof clothing.
Power generation.
Torch (can't have too many of these).
Candles.
Salt Pepper and spices can liven up even the blandest of meals.

You just need to think: If the SHTF now, would I be able to live as I do now? And acquire kit that would accomplish this (excluding internet and tv etc, of course).

On a more serious note, it might be advisable to download wikipedia onto a memory stick. There are (apparently) a variety of ways of doing this and a number of open source projects to handle the decompression and presentation of the pages. Its big - 8.8 gb compressed for a dump of just the pages (no history, no images)

I have not done a download yet - but it certainly is on my "gotta get to it" list.

I would suggest keeping the knife and crossbow but get rid of the rest, knife you can make traps for small game and crossbow can be used on slightly bigger game (and protection if need be), but if your just feeding yourself you don't want anything bigger than a calf or lamb unless you have a good way to store fresh meat.

The rest of the weapons can be disposed off, won't need them.

As for food I would suggest stock up on rice, it keeps well, it can be bought in large quantities (especially from places like costco) and is quite cheap, it is also a staple food which means you can survive on just rice for long periods of time.

Bug out bag with these essentials ready packed: knife, tent/shelter, clothes, 3 day food/water supply, toilet role and sleeping bag. Because if you have to leave suddenly for what ever reason you dont want to waste time packing.

IMHO, cheap value tinned foods and a cooking heat source.

Also slingshot, its cheap and can be versatile. I buy elastic bands by the half kilo for mine about a £5 from ebay.

Thanks for the feedback but i would rather keep the machete to cut small trees down to make shelter etc.

Thanks for the input but what is the use for a slingshot?

Also what is a good renewable heat source? Cheers
