Ideal for those tight bloody lanes around your way as well. cheap, good offroad with little upgrade, economical, not much room up back though like my wifes Pinin.

As there is only me, the wife and the dog i would remove the rear seats to give more room in the back, for extra carriage i would get a tow bar fitted and get a trailer!

Also, if you can get a second hand Land Cruiser, those things are unstoppable. They even give Defenders a run for their money off the beaten track.

have a look on the whithans specialist vehicle site they have a few ex mod land cruisers that where use in Iraq some even come with free bullet holes

Make a criteria list or spec list for your BOV, Start with

Diesel engine at least 2.5 litre
Steel road wheels not alloy
large fuel tank
steel bumpers or bull bars

I have a 300tdi Discovery a family car good off road loads of room and I can work on it runs on vegoil or what ever else is at hand come bug out time but with the cash you have to spend it will be well below your price

If I had £12000 to spend I would still go for the same vehicle but rebuild it and kit it out in one go but that is just me this is my second Disco Mrs Max made me get rid of the last one because I had to many vehicles

But like north said always look at what the farmers are cutting about in there will be a local dealers close and they want good vehicle for the right price

Suzuki Vitara 4x4... with decent tyres. Or a Suburu anything. Or forget about "farmers" and all that - buy a kitted Toyota L/C HZJ77... probably the most durable/capable 4x4 you can buy out of the box. Except you have to buy it in Japan. Or a HZJ78. Ultimate. Nah, go with the Vitara - 4x4. low ratio, very capable, you won't regret if you know how to use it............................

hello and yes i'm new but i will not be a one post guy, this guy ends these vids by saying the toyota is the best but watch the vis and ignore the down hill issue as every one who has tryed to recreate this has not been able to, land roveres are the best bet for long term and the out of the box over the rough stuff,

p.s toyota have given the UN a great deal on the land crusers which was very good busniess, they are to fat long and heavy.
