I work for a 999 service and designed some of the first CBRN deployment vehicles.
The suits we use now for Chemical / Biological are fully self contained one piece suits. Removal of the suit is achieved in a de com chamber / tent, you can’t take if off yourself.
It doesn’t mater if your using modern kit or ex army kit you need be trained in CBRN protocol. If you went outside in a CB situation how would you get out, and back in ?.
The Radioactive or Nuclear situations are completely different depending on exposure levels, therefore you would need a exposure meter as the suit would not protect you under close contact. This type of kit is best left alone as a perception of protection can be very dangerous and can endanger you and others.

Just thinking of a somewhat dialed down scenario from full war. The good ole dirty bomb plot. Given that the intention is just to chuck a bunch if radiological material into the air would it be somewhat similar to fallout dust? In which case would a disposable tyvek suit be enough to limit short term exposure while you evaced? My understanding is that with alpha and beta particles, ingestion and inhalation are the biggest risks so could a suitable mask and disposable outerwear coupled with good decon be enough? Would love ians input if your still about!?

Edited for spelling and clarity ;)
