[this was going to be short - sorry!]
Well I've been reading dozens of threads on here for several weeks which has helped evolve an interest and curiosity into practical action. I'm literally new to prepping although its always been in my subconscious! This site is excellent and I've already learnt a great deal - about stuff I didn't know I needed to know!
Anyway, I'm Darren (38) and I live and work in Manchester with my family Jayne (21!), Lucas (3) and Max (7 mth Boxer dog).
Jayne and I are both getting into prepping, not because of any single reason or threat, but so that we feel more secure and capable of dealing with a multitude of issues. Short term we're in the process of accumulating a 1 month food & water supply, along with other essentials. I'm quite reliant on 'free from' foods due to IBS and our son has an extremely limited diet that's a function of Autism. I'm also looking into harvesting energy from solar & wind (nothing to do with my IBS
At the beginning of the cold spell a couple of months back our boiler finally gave up the fight. It was 2 weeks before the new combi was fitted during which time we realised just how dependent we are on heat for comfort & water. And just how expensive it is to use electric heaters. As soon as we can afford it, we'll be buying a decent gas powered heater to have on stand-by/use in the conservatory.
Also a local water board issue (never found out what exactly) meant no water for a couple of days. By the time I got to Morrisons, there were just a few litres of bottled water left - i'll not be caught out like that again! (Already have >50l stored
Skills wise I'm not qualified at anything "useful", but I'm very practical and have plenty of experience messing about with all sorts.
If your still reading this then thanks, I guess there's at least one other person on my wave length!
All the best.
