The trick is to fit a locking mechanism on the inside of the door, with the keyhole hidden. Anyone trying to break into my garage (which has barn-style doors) would spend the better part of an hour just trying to find the keyhole to pick the lock. They then wouldn't have any idea what kind of lock is being used, so wouldn't know which pick method would be best (it's not a yale-style lock, or a mortis-style lock... it's quite different)

It'd be far quicker for them to take an angle grinder to the hinges, but that's an aweful lot of steel to cut through and would certainly attract attention ;)

I'm under no delusion that my garage is theif-proof (no such thing), but it's unassuming and at least moderately secure.

The best security is obscurity: if it looks like crap, nobody will want it!

Ok now I am intrigued. Fancy uploading a picture so long as it doesn't compromise you security.

I'll sleep on that one just to be sure, but right now I see no reason not to post a picture (it's not like anyone knows who I am or where I live)
