Uses for plastic hose??

Post by lightningxl »

Hey been thinking about solar sills and how to make them more efficient first line depresion in ground with black bin liner aids heating/evapouration. Then cover with clear poly sheet.

The platic hose could hav 2 uses suck water out of container without disturbing sheet ie loseing heat - then thought why not have second tube to add liquids seawater/urine etc.

(hav not tried this yet - if the sun ever returns want to give it a go)

Does anyone else pack plastic tube and what uses do they have in mind....?

Just thought of two more uses - summer black hose coiled in the sun to heat water up - winter bury coil in active compost heat to achieve same, Good for pre heating water before entering boiler.

I like the "coiling in the sun" idea. I'm fairly rubbish at making compost, so I doubt the winter thing would work for me, but if you get daylight through a double glazed window, there'd be *some* effect.

I saw an episode of "Renovation Nation" on some Freeview channel recently, and it showed a solar package being installed (to heat a swimming pool, FFS!) Apparently in California, some people spend $400 - $800 a month heating their pool! Anyway, this guy was using the existing pool pump to power the system, and he was putting the black mini-hoses on the rooftop of the house (single storey) - and as he pointed out, doing that was heating the pool water, and also helping the air conditioning in the house, as it was taking away heat from the roof that would otherwise be going into the house!

hi, if you thread your hose pipe through lots of 2L plastic coke bottles so it looks like a string of sausages that will increase the efficiency. :)

I pack two smallish bits of clear braided and mark one with black tape (dirty usage) and no marking on other (clean usage). They are there for possibly draining fuel for stove/fire etc, and for getting water from inaccessible places or from under top contamination....

Will look at a still now though! Do we need a great deal of exposure to the sun for that? New concept on me

Interesting uses for plastic hose mentioned here. I have read/heard of such uses of hose for procuring water before, although there are a few new ideas here I've not heard of before.

On a completely different tangent for the use of hose - If you're anything like me and use ropes for climbing or abseiling, at some point you are going to have to pass the rope around a rock or other object to achieve your objective of ascending or descending. Objects that may have sharp edges, over time, will damage the rope, but passing the rope through a piece of garden hose cut to the required length before passing it around the anchor point will prevent damage to the rope. You can buy rope protectors for this purpose, but why spend the money when you can just use an old bit of garden hose?!

Ace. :)
