Hi All,
I am after buying a water filter for use in my preps as well as during my bushcraft outings.
I have whittled it down to the either the Hiker Pro or Pocket models but have a few questions someone here may be able to answer.
As i understand it the Pocket model ceramic filter will remove bacteria, protazoa down to 0.2 Microns and can be used in very cloudy water whereas the hiker pro removes the same down to 0.3 Microns and is designed for occasionally turbid water.
My first question is - is there a significant different in the types of nasties that can get through between 0.2 and 0.3 Microns, enough to sway my decision on what to buy?
Second - i have a few areas where i camp that have no running water source but have stagnant ponds most of the year and also would like to be able to use water from muddy sources (deep puddles in the center of a wood for example) - would either of the filters be better suited for this?
Finally being a complete novice when it comes to filtering kit would i need to further treat the water by either boiling. chlorine tabs or both? If so would cutting out the filtering stage put me at any more risk of water borne nasties?
I presume that the filtering side would replace the boiling and treating bit but again im no expert.
All the best, Hamster

I am also a reader over on Bushcraft UK (BcUK) and there was a really good read on water cleaning and purification a few years back, maybe it will have some useful information?

The writer seems to have looked into it quite deeply.
