Perhaps another way to consider is the more natural/herbal type remedies. Things you can grow in your own garden and you are then not reliant on manufactured drugs.

This is a good idea. No worries about use by dates or overdoses/misuse. And the garden is a renewable resource.
On a personal level I am using breathing exercises taught me by a Chinese Practitioner friend for my asthma. It works.
