Hand tools
Hand tools
Not having any electricty up at a field I rent i use hand tools normaly left up there for when I need to repair something. My electric drill at home gave up the ghost and as christmas has just gone I decied just to bring the one from the field home I then needed it back up the field so thought I would buy a new hand drill (got to be cheaper than an electric one) and just have two. Huh I have looked everywhere for a hand drill can't find one, which got me thinking has anyone else had trouble getting hold of hand tools and where did you get your from in the end. Yes I will be looking on evilbay but might just wait for the car boots to start up again and have a look around them

Ebay, Amazon, gumtree, freecycle are a few good places to look as well as carboot and table sales.

Bootsales are the best bet though, and maybe charity shops

Re: Hand tools
My OH uses many hand tools, his choice. We picked up loads at car boots, many for just £1.
Might be worth getting a book so you know what to look out for

Hand tools
Hi
+1 for boot sales and "junk" shops.
Great tools - best prices. Just need a clean up, oil & sharpen and they will be better than most new tools
Cheers

If you go to any of the county/farm/agricultural shows you will probably find quite a number of booths selling old hand tools. I get quite a few useful things from such places. Last time I got a couple of antique garden hoes - top quality steel in styles I particularly favour and which are hard to find new these days.junmist wrote: which got me thinking has anyone else had trouble getting hold of hand tools and where did you get your from in the end.

Re: Hand tools
Boot sales are usually the best places to pick up hand tools but be warned , because there old and have Stanley on them doesn't mean that they are either antiques or worth a lot of money something that the sellers sometimes don't realise,

Hence the reason you need to know what you are looking for, we picked up a couple of these in decent condition for £1 each.poppypiesdad wrote:Boot sales are usually the best places to pick up hand tools but be warned , because there old and have Stanley on them doesn't mean that they are either antiques or worth a lot of money something that the sellers sometimes don't realise,

It's also a lifestyle choice - learning to use tools that are not reliant on electric, learning a new skill.

Re: Hand tools
Totally I still have in the bottom of my toolbox a 23 year old Stanley Yankee 18" pump driver , for the odd occasion that the battery has died in my cordless drill , usually on a Friday , afternoon , in the rain and the job has to be done , and the odd looks I get when I use it , but it still works even after 23 years ( god I'm old )
