Forget the price. I am a Butcher. I know knives , the steak knife and boner have been the tools of my trade for 30 years. No knives can be more abused. We kill 'em.

A good knife sits well in the hand, and is SHARP!

All this Bear Grylls and Ray Mears crap is just that. You are paying top dollar for a brand. You are as well to buy a Scandi grind mora-sharp as hell, easy to keep that way,cheap and tough. I am mot criticising anyone, but I use a real knife ten hours a day.

My Dad was a butcher Jansman and your right, the steak knife and bone knife, his cleaver, saw and that needle thing and his sharpening steel, its what you are comfortable with, and more money doesn't make it any easier in the hand, my dad apart from when he had his own little shop, worked with others he often said everyone has their own tune with the sharpening steel, sound familiar? he's been gone 17 years I can still hear his in my head now.

I used a steel on my wife's kitchen knives, she wasn't happy when she drew blood because they were so much sharper afterwards

I wouldn't bother personally, there are a lot more useful knives around that I would be happier with.

Looks more like a posers knife than a good using knife.

Frosts Mora knives are a good allround inexpensive outdoor knife

No matter were i look i can't find one of ray mears knifes that are under a £100? i'm sure he sells one for £25 or am i wrong?

Also i like bear grylls range they are very well built. You do have to pay a bit extra for the brand tho =P

Look up the bear grylls parang knife - it had a fault whereby it would snap in half ion impact 0.o.

Can the OP clarify what the knife would be for before we answer the question?

Have a few of these. Cheap, easy to maintain, great in the hand, hold a good edge, good at lots of things. Can't go wrong IMHO.
