Hello there

Post by Sir Loin »

Hi all,

Although I can see myself being much more of a lurker than a posting giant, I thought I'd better pop in and introduce myself first.

...common courtesy and all that!!

Although I've never actually thought of myself as a 'prepper', having come across this site whilst searching for other stuff, I suppose that in many ways I am!

I'm from a smallish village in Cannock Chase and was brought up from a young age by an ex-RAF dad to have what he called 'commando breakfasts'. He'd finish a night shift at 5 am, pick me up and we'd go into the Chase, find ourselves some water, some sticks and have some Sausage and Beans in an old mess tin. Ace as an 8 year old lad, and something me and my mates built on as young lads. This was one of the main reasons I joined the RAF myself a few years later, and then when I was a little older and realised that there was always a cupboard full of pasta, dried food, compo sausages and other long
life stuff is when I realised I'd better all my sh!t in a sock as it were...

Having read the intro's, I suppose that I'm not really prepping for anything in particular. I'm interested in what could have happened during the Cold War I suppose having spent a chunk of my life in supposed Nuclear proof HAS buildings, but never actually giving a thought to it during the time I was in there during exercise and eating rat packs!!!

Location wise, I'm close to Cannock town itself albeit in a quiet area, and am prepared to 'bug in' as it were, however, I'm also fully ready to 'bug out' and have a good area of the Chase in mind and set ready but things would have to get pretty bad for that I suppose!!

Anyway, enough about me!!

Thanks for having me!

Hi there,

Greetings from Birmingham, West Midlands. I'm just S/E of B'ham. Over by the airport :) - Got my ticket out a planned if it all goes Pete Tong!

As mentioned by piglet (thanks for the intro piglet) i've got a bit of an RAF background myself. Do you know RAF Cosford by any chance? It's got a really nice Cold War Museum. Great for seeing how the 'other half' used to live when life was relatively simple, far less complicated than what it is now, today.

I should have also mentioned about my other grandparents. My late paternal grandfather was a sergeant in the RAF. Parachute instructor. He met my grandmother who used to pack and repair chutes - and also drove 2 tonne supply trucks! Quite a nice love story really. But best left for another post.

Learned alot from them all. Wish i had the technology i do now to record and preserve all those memories... i just need to ensure that i share mine.

:)
