Does this mean I will just have to try ignore all her posts instead? :o
Awww, Don't take it to heart MP, I have enjoyed the debate on here and showing you the error of your ways ;) ;) We have just about thrashed this subject to bits now, so maybe time to try another topic and thrash that one to bits as well.

I was wrong once, I made a note of it in my diary, it was in the summer of 1982 I believe ;) Since then I have done everything I can to be closer to correct than to be incorrect.

It's all about respect for other members on here, and not shooting people down for passing on useful information, a good debate shouldn't be quenched because it gets a bit warm, so long as it is done without malice and a virtual handshake can be made at the end of it. Life learnt experiences are always welcome in my book, though they might not be to others, but it doesn't mean I won't share it for those who might be intereted.

There are some clever, intelligent people on here with common sense thrown in as well, and then there are probably a few where not all those qualities are at the fore, but they have other skills.

I for one hope you are still around for a while yet.

How are they going to be trained? There is a BIG difference between a paper target and a human being, and what about if they missed, how many innocents are hurt or killed?

From a US Site I was reading
Funny, my husband and I were just speaking an hour ago about an O D Female officer who emptied her 2in snubnosed Smith standing four feet from her aggressor (armed with a knife), she emptied her gun... and missed every single shot
And apparently she was a trained police officer, so what would the chances be for a 20year old woman in the UK?

A useful video showing a gun is likely to be useless in a knife fight.

I will make this my last post on this subject, as I think that it is something which stirs up the worst in us all!! I would certainly hate to be caught up in a fight which ends in me being sent to the back of the class

I would just like to add as a last thought, that whilst I agree not every circumstance will work in the favour of somebody with a firearm as 12mp82 has pointed out with the help of mythbusters, a firearm in TRAINED hands is likely to add a bit of LUCK to a situation whereby somebody is being threatened with another weapon......

I will not enter into a p*****g match about what how good I am or anything like that, but I do,like to think that my time time in the forces has taught me how to be safe/competent and accurate with a firearm, and it is that sort of training which leads me to think, that if the worst should happen, that my wife and children would be perhaps a little safer, should I own that sort of equipment?

I can't understand the thinking that if you yourself should be attacked in your own home, that without any formal training (be that in martial arts/self defence/firearms e.t.c), that the law in itself is enough to protect you?

I am certainly in the minority where I live, but I can tell you that police presence (through no fault of their own I might add) can be over 2 hours away. The distances, and number of police personnel mean that at least two days in seven, any attacker in my household has my full and undivided attention for all that time.... If they entered my house whilst my children and I am asleep in bed, and I wake to find them on the stairs with knives, the law will be of little comfort to me I can tell you! This is a situation which a close friend of mine found himself in just after the birth of his daughter, so it DOES happen!!

Like I said, I will now end my participation in this conversation, as I am aware of the feelings of others, and also how upset I am myself, in the lack of choice I have in the protection of my own family! My apologies if this continues to stir up the hornets nest, but I shall now chomp on the bit instead!!
