Edible Flowers

Post by TwoDo »

For those of interested in planting stealth food gardens*, or who just wish to hedge their bets by having a nice flower garden which could be useful post SHTF, Thompson-Morgan have a nice web page up on edible flowers

http://www.thompson-morgan.com/edible-flowers

Pretty interesting and comprehensive list really, I had no idea lilacs, lavender and fuchsias were edible. Also includes recipes in case you fancy a Nasturtium and Runner Bean omelet or some Primrose salad. Also interesting is the page on flowers that are known to be poisonous

*an edible garden which doesn't look like food to foragers post SHTF

There's one they missed; most consider it a weed. Elder. You can eat the flowers, or turn them into wine, likewise the berries. They also have medicinal properties :)

(PS. Don't buy your seeds from em; they do hybrids, not organic open pollinated!)
