I must admit to liking a roll-up, but also as a barter item in any post fall world it would be priceless. There are a few sites around showing how to do it and I might give it a try. Obviously I would follow the law and declare how much I had grown to the appropriate authorities
Just wondering if anyone has had any success growing it
Nice one CC, must admit I'm partial myself, but like you said - a great bartering item, is it possible to grow in the UK? I wonder what is needed to refine it?
It seems it is possible to grow it here http://www.tobaccoseed.co.uk/How_to_Grow_Tobacco.html . Not sure how effective it would be growing in a post fall environment for barter as they seem to like a lot of Nitrogen fertilizer. Ready to pick 60-90 days after germination though so not bad.
I think I will get some seeds and give it a try next year......I could become self sufficient (in baccy at least )
There's probaby a page on it somewhere, but does anyone know offhand how they get it from the leaves to the brown stringy stuff you get in your baccy packet? I can't make the connection from reading the site.
This is without doubt the best thing to grow. It has a myriad of uses including smoking it. Did you know that Henry Ford's first model T was designed to run on hemp diesel? The first drafts of the American Constitution were written on Hemp Paper. Hemp clothing gets handed down through families because it is so durable and at one time it was illegal in America NOT to grow hemp.
Hemp kept many families alive during times of hardship. It is very easy to grow apparently and very hardy. I am also lead to believe it is the only plant on planet earth where you can tell the sex of the plant just by looking at it.
Then, thanks to some really dodgey missinformation that was banded about, a blatant renaming, and the funding of DuPont and the Hearst family, they managed to get one of the most amazing plants in the world made illegal.
So you might have to keep it under you hat unless you have a Notice of Understanding otherwise Plod might come calling but if you are out in the sticks, then that is unlikely and I wish you all the best. Why should some government worker be able to tell you what you can and cannot grow on your own land?
Why would God or mother nature (delete where applicable) put something on this planet that is so amazing without a reason. I believe every plant/shrub/bush/tree/weed on the planet has a use or purpose that we have either forgotten or not discovered yet.
Pioneer from the LSG and at least one other guy I knew of have tried this. It's an interesting hobby but the hard part iirc was the "curing" of the tobacco not the growing.
The only tip I can give is that the Alan Carr book helped me mate.
