Hello, I'm Robert. And I think too much.
Ive been thinking about what will happen to and in the world in the next 50 or so years and I came to the conclusion that if a massive disaster happened leading to the end of the world that the biggest problem would be social anarchy, so why set up a base I wont be able to defend if found by a large group? I will be going on foot with a backpack of basic equipment, Bullet/Stab proof gear, a large hunting knife and of course basic knowledge.
Anything that would lead to the end of the world would be something that kills a lot of people and out of control of the Government. So I thought then... "Hmm I better build some kind of base and stockpile food" But what use is that anything that is going to kill you will kill you upon impact or touch or reaction, making it pointless investing in a solid base to hide in, if it was overwhelmed you cant do anything (e.g. if they take your defence weapon).
I am really new to this and not done much research into what 'could' happen, now I dont know if this is the best Idea nevertheless it will work for me. Any suggestions for what I will need?

Re: Hello, A Walsall fellow here.
Hello, Robert. Welcome to UKP.
Most of us here are planning for events such as - loss of employment, inclement weather (the UK is good at that), power cuts, economic problems, pandemics, and maybe the civil unrest that would come from some (but not all) of these eventualities, that kind of thing. Have a good look around the forums to see what we do and go from there. A BIG asteroid hitting our little planet will kill us all, we can't prep for that.
Stay safe,
Ace.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.
A few questions on your idea, not after exact answers but just to get you thinking...
If you are going on foot:
1. How much food/water can you carry? How are you going to re-supply?
2. Over what distance to you envision travelling? By day/night? Have maps?
3. Where are you travelling too? Have supplies there?

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Hello and welcome
Don't worry - start off small, read some of the threads and relax. We're about being that just that little bit more prepared than your average Joe for all sorts of things - even the ordinary ones like losing your job - not just society breakdown senarios! Read and do a little at a time, and don't get overwhelmed by the fountains of information on this forum. Happy prepping!
