Homemade toothpaste?
Does anyone here know how one could make their own toothpaste when SHTF? I've already stocked up on more than I need just in case, but that's only going to last for a year or so. I need a recipe to make my own, plus something I could use as a toothbrush. Any ideas?
Re: Homemade toothpaste?
For toothpast you can use Baking soda or salt put a bit of powder into your had and dab with a damp toothbrush, or dry sage make it into a powder and use. You can also use sage for a very good mouth wash by makeing it into a tea and letting it go cold. As for making your own toothbrush I know I saw Ray mears use a tree for a toothbrush but for the life of me I can't remeber what tree it was

Hi there,
I'm new here and this is my first post, but as I remember from History class, many many years ago. Wood ash was used by ancient cultures.
It would save your salt, soda and peroxide for more important needs

Re: Homemade toothpaste?
If you aren't too(th) fussy what you put in your mouth then you can get ASDA Smartprice toothpaste for 25p.
One tube should last 1 person a couple of months if you just use the recommended pea sized amount.
£1 - £1-50 should get you a years supply for one person and I can't see it going off.
Just buy one tube every time you visit ASDA or Tesco and before you know it you will have 5 years supply.
Their soap is only 35p for 3 bars so pop one of them in your basket at the same time.
I prefer fluoride free toothpaste so it's Boots Smile toothpaste for me.
Be lucky (and keep smiling)

The tree you're thinking of is willow. You'd want to find some twigs and fray the ends, then use them as a brush to clean your teeth. As well as brushing, you'll want to make some toothpicks as well - and they can double up as firelighters.
