hi Technik

if you can go for an older model thats a fresh import, look for one with no modifications then youre sure it hasnt been thrashed off road, i know as thats what i did in my swb

newer ones that dont have the m40 engine in have had alot of complaints on pajero forum, older ones seems more reliable and less electronics to go wrong.

bear in mind that these imports are similar to shogun but higher spec, but also as in japan etc they dont use salt on the roads so they dont suffer corrosion problems as much as uk cars, wether that be a landy, shogun etc etc

as for veggie oil and seperate tank that could take up space which you need unless you have a decent trailer, also unless it cold in summer you could use upto 70% veggie oil to 30% deisal with no problems, of in winter you have to lower ratio as when cold veggie oil thickens, however people overcome this by adding a litre of white spirit to thin it down.
all i used to do was have a few 25 litres plastic containers fill half with diesal half with veggie oil and shake away before filling tank, never had a problem

like i said earlier though people spend a small fortune on fuel system cleaners, yet in a diesal veggie oil will strip the tank and fuel pipes clean, so after using veggie oil and doing a few hundred miles you will need to replace filter which is only a few quid from milners, then its a once a year job and easy to do.

read on here that parts are easy to source for landrovers and non import 4x4's just have a look on the bay and online theres loads of places to get anything you want for a pajero

back seats come out with a few bolts, some people have a shelf put in so that off road stuff, tools, tow rope etc is under the shelf while you still have a large usable space on top for thing you need to get to fast, some great ideas out there

look at the pipes under the air box that run across the top of the engine from the primer pump to the filter . they rub there and will have tiny little cracks that let air in but not fuel out .
Yep, I read about that yesterday - apparently a common problem. Got some clear pipes to replace them, just waiting for the weekend to come ;) Thanks unsure.

Thanks for all the great info. How long have you run it on that mix for? I'm just worried about the pump and thought that the 2 tank system would be more reliable? Do you have smoke problems?

hmmm yeh it smells like a chip shop and makes people hungry when you drive by, but alas it may smell more it actually lowers your emissions, so also a great tip which i did before mot.
i used to rotate my mix, give it a break now and then... so in summer run 50/50 diesal/veggie oil then in winter as low as 80/20 diesal/veggie oil depending how cold it got, if it was -5 then used to stick pure diesal on top.

had to sell my old gal as someone ran into the back of it, hardly did any damage but my insurance went up from £400 to £1000 as i made a claim even though it wasnt my fault, was only a little paint near rear light and replace towbar as bent as anything.

forgot to say i ran that in my swb pajero, delica and lwb pajero, id say combined i was running veggie oil for 7+ years, apart from fuel filter replacing after about 2 weeks from starting using it i had no problems, on the forum there was people who had fuel pump problems who never had ran veggie at all

I'm just not sure what would be better - to spend around £900 on the 2 tank system and run the car on pure veg or leave that money for a new pump (which is probably around £500 + garage) and run it like you did 50/50 in the main tank and replace the pump IF it packs up...
In all those years what veg oil have you used? Pure or waste?
I will be probably using the car on a daily basis at work so will need that space in the back for my tools but I'm also getting a caravan so plenty space in there ;)

Run pure or SVO (straight vegetable oil) as its also called , nothing simpler than opening a litre in lidl's car park and pouring it in (there is chaper out there now but for a time lidl's was cheapest(Costco 20l £18, so now cheaper ), but this was in the summer not winter

Would you not be cheaper and simpler going for a series LR , ex mod , pre 1960 , for several reasons.

Buy one with the understanding of replacing the chassis with a galavanised one ( then wax and underseal it ) it will last for ever
Simple to Maintain (plugs, points , condenser, coil, leads ,dizzy cap ) easy peasy
Has a starting handle if battery goes flat
Cheap tyres
Cheap Insurance
Free Tax
NO MOT
Plenty of them around

Might need to buy a oil rig and a processing plant to refuel those things, lol

NO MOT ?

Of course there is an MOT needed to drive it on the road, just because there is no tax it doesn't mean you don't need an MOT certificate to get your exemption disc and insurance.
