Got my straight edge, carbon steel solid knife today since the only decent one outside of the kitchen was a partly serrated foldable one.
Also a rifle scope since binoculars are rather bulky (and oddly more expensive).
Food dehydrator should be arriving this week as well.
I realised the one think I'm really missing from my first aid kit is a good burn cream, if anyone knows of an excellent one could you please PM me the name. Thank you.

Hello Edward21
Thank you for this link. I've been browsing for ages and as we do try to grow our own, I've saved it as a 'favourite' for later.
You can't beat the taste of fresh food in my opinion.

On the subject of burn creams, I still think that with small burns the best is Savlon.
Use it by taking a sterile gauze dressing and putting a blob of Savlon cream on the dressing and covering the small burn and taping into place.
You can repeat the application if needed but within a few hours it will have done the job and open drying will do the rest.
With broken blistered skin after a burning, a trip to the surgery might be sensible.
Dry dressing to keep it clean. Ring to raise it off the burn so it doesn't stick.
Let them do the rest. Modern dressings are quite clever and involve membranes etc that first aiders don't usually have to hand.

Best burn cream even invented was flamazine cream , but for some reason they discontinued the stuff , used to get it in big tubs 500g/1kg and with dressings ready impregnated , was fab stuff .but that was many moons ago.

At present, we're just planning for the anticipated power outage. Given that this house is all electric - yes, I know, the HA are morons - this means digging out the camp stove, charging the torches, getting the tea lights set out round the place and planning a one pot meal for dinner. Also putting the heating on now, to bump the temp by several degrees, so it stays warmer longer.
For burns, I use aloe vera gel, with a little wheatgerm oil in it. Never yet found anything better

IMHO, it might be a good idea to add to your list of things to get, bioethanol to use to keep the temperature inside warmish and some trangeas to use as low cost bioethanol fireplace burners

Better heating, that doesn't require electric, is on the list, along with switching the cooking to LPG to start with, then, hopefully, to methane produced by a biodigester. It's just talking the HA into it. As with the vast majority of 'organisations', it requires meetings about meetings to set up the minutes of yet more bloody meetings to get anything done
The insulation has just been upgraded, so it holds the heat pretty well, which is good - and a vast improvement on previously! Kids will charge their electronic gadgets (DS, portable DVD player) and we'll make sure everything else is in place. Don't anticipate it being out for too long; so far, longest is just over twenty hours without any power. And it started snowing the next morning! We just wrapped everyone up in lots of layers and kept all the internal doors closed, to minimise heat loss.

So far this week I have picked up a few bits from a bidding site. I bought a small, lightweight tent, a bag a bog and the special bags! some campfire cookware, bottled some more water, dehydrated some fruit and added some tinned goods, I have picked up some more pallets from local building store (needs chopping and de-nailing!) have also planted some seeds for tomatoes and onions, fingers crossed they grow, im useless at growing things!
Oh, and I have talked my OH into getting me a Ghillie kettle for valentines
after all Im not one for flowers and chocolates!
All in all I think Ive been a busy bee so far and its only Tuesday! good times!
