Im prepper because of one book I got as kid the SAS SURVIVAL MANUAL I think was'nt for that book and camping, hunting and learning general survival. I would not be on this pathway of trying to become indepdent and self sufficent.

i guess its impossible to stock up for a lifetime of survival but with our prepping skills and knowledge at least it gives us a head start

All skills you can pass onto your children thus also giving them better survival AND employment opportunities.
I think the Iconic image of the sheeple mentality came from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the picture of 6 ft of water flooding the streets and this skinny American sheeple has been out salvaging supplies. On a floating door torn from some house sits his equally ragged female sheeple caring for a pile of beer cans and cigarette packets. No food, no drinking water, no medical gear just scavenged crap. And that is what most sheeple with head for if TSHTF. They will rush straight past the chemists and outdoor shops to raid jewellers, electrical goods, booze outlets etc, and expect the govt to feed and water them.
I couldnt agree more that is the mentality of the sheeple all summed up

If TSHTF in this country, who is going to help me? The government or the local council? I don't think so! Maybe other nations might help us out? Once again, I don't think so!

Its sad to say, but I'm on my own. My wife and kids come first before anyone else and its my job to take care of myself and them. Regards to the zombies/sheep of this country, I couldn't care less!

Don't get me wrong, am not a mean person, only last week, I supplied the next door neighbour with water as the pipes burst. Hopefully they've learnt a valuable lesson and might stock some bottled water if it happens again, but I doubt it!

Don't know whats going to happen on the job front in the next 12 months etc, but if I've got a good stockpile of food, toiletries etc, its one less thing to worry about! If I've paid of my debts, I don't have to worry about finding the money for them. Fingers crossed, hopefully I'll be debt free at the end of the year, except for the mortgage!

I think the main reason i now 'prep' is that i realised recently how niaively dependant i previously was, and used to think, as most people do, that the Govt 'wouldn't let it get that bad'. Whether or not your an old testament fire and brimstone religious zealot or just sit in the hills sharpening your scythe in readiness for armageddon, the world has got a lot more 'exciting' recently and there are too many news reports of people deserted by their Govt's in their time of need. now i'm not massively anti-Govt but people need to take control of their own safety and prepping, or survivalism lite , as a few other posters have mentioned people seem to winge about things like train companies not providing blankets or food when they could easily have their own provisions. (sorry started to rant there.) but yeah, no one on earth cares as much for my family as I do, so it's no-ones responsibility more than mine to ensure their needs are met in times of famine AND plenty. (nuff said)
