I used to work for a guy that always texted, and made phone calls, whilst driving, and the more I asked him not to do it, the more he seemed to do it. IDIOT!! Thankfully, I quit working for him. (Not for text driving, though) This is a sobering reminder of why it is against the law to use your phone when driving.

Driving warrants and requires ones full attention it's that basic, even hands free some phone calls can be too much of a distraction, you know what I mean idle chat probably wouldn't divert much brain power but things which require concentration do, I consider myself fortunate not to have to se a mobile for anything other than remaining in contact with my imediate family and friends which are few, texting were it not for the abillity to plug my phone into my PC and type it would still be too much trouble even sitting comfortably performing no other tasks ;)
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

I'm firmly against this protectionist/nanny state BS, first they ban guns (for the most part) then they ban carrying knifes (for the most part), then they bring in regulation against swords, then banning dog breeds, and for a long time now silly videos.

The world is a dangerous place, people die in it and need to die in it to allow the human race to continue, if people don't have the common sense to not kill themselves behind the wheel they should be left alone to do so. Right now its text messaging or placing calls, years ago it was reading a map while driving. I know people that have gotten pulled over for eating an apple behind the wheel. The only reason the government and police pretend to care, is to develop dependance on the state and turn people into sheep, just following their masters.

Thats why you have a legal system in place charge them for involuntary manslaughter, prison does no good and its a waste of money, maybe labor camps. If you do a stupid thing and kill someone, you should face the consequences, but people should still be allowed to do stupid things.

Exactly!! Too often our laws only stop normal, sensible people from enjoying something because someone else is too stupid. I don't have a problem with the texting one, it levies a penalty on something which I think everyone can agree is a stupid thing to do.

My main worry is that legislation is enacted or proposed which limits our ability to prepare properly, or easily be more self dependant. Things like planning laws frustrate me as the amount of red tape to do anything with land I wanted to own puts it out of my ability to financially do so.... Grr.

Ah but the problem with that approach is everybody knows it just won’t happen to them, because they’re carful…

As a voluntarist I don’t like the idea of laws and government full stop as they force us into these false axioms. When all you have is a hammer ever problem looks like a nail.

Now let’s say we had private roads, not crony-capitalist government endowed ‘privatization’ I mean the real McCoy, you could have a road company that allowed people to text while driving and one which didn’t, now if you were really worried about people texting while driving you’d avoid the former at all costs, while if you really cherished the right to tap away while you should be watching the road you wouldn’t mind paying extra in tolls to make up for the shortfall from people avoiding that road.
