Just for me really

12 x 240ah deep cycle batteries@ £170 £2040

1 x 1500w 12v inverter £400 ish depending on model

1x solar charge controller £300 ish again depending on model

4 x 250w solar panels@£277 £1108

2 x (2 panel support system complete)@£215.90 £431.80

Total bill £ 4280.

and your batteries will need replacing probably every 5 years but this may vary .

Damm expensive .

To my eye the calcs look way to steep. The spec of a Samsung RSH5UBMH states an annual consumption of 441kWh/yr, equiv. to 1208w/day. A long way short of the 6408w/day estimate above.

See here for spec - http://www.appliance-reviews.co.uk/p/Sa ... cification

Check this out for £1295 -

Granted, the freezer is 30 litres smaller and there's no fridge, but you could have 3 of these kits for £4280! Read through the pages at the following link which do a really good job of explaining (in relatively simple terms) how to design a solar system - I'm in no way connected to the site, but have found it to be a good source of info; I'm sure there are 00's of others.

its a shame there is no steam engine boffins here steam and wood generator would be nice. on its own solar is a very cash hungery setup and it takes a lot of peddling to make up the power to run a basic freezer but ever been camping? is there not camping freezers that run of 12 volts and gas :D I wonder how thay work I think thay work simple by compressing a liquid thru a small pipe then spraying it into a larger one as the liquid turns to gas it cools the pipe then collects at the bottom of the pipe again in a one way cycle so it should be possible to make some sort of burner to warm the liquid to make it happen.

Couple of things you've not taken into account ,

Its not a fridge freezer

You need to take into account the power to run the defrost heaters

The figures quoted are correct to run the fridge freezer for 2 days

And for the recharging of the batteries .

Your shown freezer is purpose designed for the system , so yes you could buy 3 but she has already got the f/f
