Isn't much more I can add here, apart from maybe make a start. If you are in a power cut zone, then batteries and torches are a good place to start, possibly wind ups too as well as buying some rigid wire and some lamp wick next time you are at the hardware shop to make olive oil lamps with (and naturally, make sure you have some ordinary cheap olive oil to go in it and old jam jars of a robust type to use as the lamp itself, or some similar open topped fire proof container). Once you have thought about light, then contemplate heat and cooking. And how you do that will depend on your situation. But if you are semi rural, then outdoor cooking techniques could come in handy, but also alcohol stoves and a kind of alcohol that you can burn indoors such as bioethanol would be useful. Also, cheap one burner gas stoves maybe. Then thee is food stores and then you are settled and can work on more specific location, circumstance an concern based issues.
