Sewing machines

I was wondering, sewing machines.... What do you have and what would you love to have ?

For that matter, Where are you looking to find your perfect machine ?

This came to mind because I was in a 'Pre-owned' shop today, they had at least six older sewing machines (mostly Singers)... At least three of which are hand-crank.... Not sure of prices though

I have 2 electric machines at the moment. One from my sister which needs a service, very basic. The second on long term loan from my neighbour. It had never been used until I took it out of its box. Although about 10years old it is a very nice machine.

However, I would love to get a treadle singer machine. At a local car boot I often see singer machines but have yet to see a treadle. I look on ebay but have not yet been in a position to buy the ones on there.

I need to start visiting flea markets/antique fairs.

I've got my Mum's electric Singer Sewing machine. Lord knows how old it is, but it still works! Just like this one.

I had a handcrank version, but it was one of the things that 'vanished' after my divorce. It's just a case of getting the handle and a couple other bits to convert this one.
If you can get one, do, they are bombproof and very user friendly. You can still get spares, instruction manuals and accessories for them too.

at the mo I have an electric machine but if I had the space I would be looking for a singer treadle sewing machine it is what I learnt on at school and I still think they are the best

I use a semi-industrial electric one day to day, but also have this hand crank singer as a back-up. It works fine but I've not used it yet as I wanted to restore the paintwork first...
