My local water is on the hard end (or so I'm told, I can't tell the difference )
BBE dates are garbage really, they're based on how long 'they' think the bottle seal will last under worse case storage (in the case of water thats in the light with big temperature swings) with a big bit knocked off to cover their arses
However I am not you, your preps are not my preps
If you'd rather buy bottled water go for it.
Do you drink water at work or the gym or anywhere like that ? If so your rotation would be simple to do (for instance, 'Bert' jogs with a mate in the park on saturday morning, Bert takes his new bottle of water to the car and swaps it for the old one in the Three-day bag, he then drinks last weeks bottle while jogging.)
Best option is some water for now, gear to make more water available for tomorrow

I think that quote alone sums up what we're trying to achieveForgeCorvus wrote:Best option is some water for now, gear to make more water available for tomorrow
I think the idea of rotation is good. Generally I drink a lot of coffee, probably too much in all honesty, but the water doesn't matter too much with that.
I do completely agree with what your saying though, BBE dates are generally just a formality. Its just that for me to be able to stick to a plan, I have to create self-discipline. To me this includes ensuring that all perishable items are well within their BBE dates, all batteries are changed every 6 months, all lighters are tested every couple of months etc.
Its not so much whether it actually makes a difference, but more in my mind so that I know everything is still in place

i carry about 10 ltrs between myself and my wife ... we carry 5 ltrs each (3ltr Bladder and additional bottles)tacticalprepper wrote:This is something that has been playing on my mind for some time. I carry a 72 hour kit in my car all the time, and I currently have both. I decided to go against the rule of 1 gallon, per person, per day, mainly due to the fact that the rule is based on a good supply in a warmer environment. I live in South-East England and most of the time its pretty cold (even colder as you go North) and as a emergency supply I believe 1.5L per person, per day is more than adequate (Totaling 6L for 72 hours). Any more would be unnecessary weight, wouldn't it?
So I thought about the idea that to save space and weight, water purification tablets might be a better option. It rains often, and there are plenty of rivers around, so is this the better way to go?
What do you guys carry?
i also have a supply of water purification tablets ... Heinnies cost them for about £4 for 50 tablets = 50 ltrs ... i have 4 packets between the 2 BOB means a total of 210 ltrs between us if needed ... they weigh nothing and it gives me something else to trade if i need to ...
