Total Newbie, in all senses of the word!

Hi all, I'm terrible at introductions... So not really sure where to start. I live in Buckinghamshire, have a large family, and always been interested in being prepared as best as possible. Hubby largely put the stoppers on that and I was busy with raising kids and doing my own thang so to speak! Anyway, kids are getting older, got more free-time on my hands and more money in my pocket and thought I'd FINALLY get started. Only problem is I'm not sure where and so whilst searching various websites (most of which appeared to be US based) I accidentely stumbled across you guys and erm... Here I am! LOL

Currently living on the outskirts of a city, and just been given an allotment (no real garden space to grow anything much in and when I tried the cats killed it all). Had a couple of chickens until recently but sadly the last one died a few weeks ago and for the moment hubby is saying no more. Have a bug out location in mind (second house, in the woods, owned by family) but am always open to new idea's and thoughts.

Anyway, that's a bit about me. I'm going to have a nosey around and start learning from you pro's. Looking forward to getting to know you all!

I'm not really sure what I'm prepping for... No electricity, gas, communications. We're pretty good for that alreadyas we discovered when we had a power cut that lasted most of the day/evening/night not long ago and our house was the only one with lights and even TV! LOL Although I'd like to be a bit better set up and I'd like to understand what it was the hubby did to get that for us as he sorted it all out and I just sort of kept the kids happy.

I'd like to have a better store of food and water too. Again, not too bad - we could last a good week or two at the very least without rationing - but I'd like to be a bit more comfortable and better set up in that respect too.

I guess I'm lucky in that hubby lived a fair proportion of his life in a house with no electricity, gas, working sewerage etc before he met me. He feels we're pretty well set up as we are, but I'd just like to KNOW a bit more about it, if that makes sense?

So yeah, I guess although I say we're starting from scratch we're not really as we (as in hubby) has some knowledge... But I feel totally un-educated and un-prepared and would like to learn more about the whole lot I suppose.

I plan and prepare for everything - except an emergency. So I'm looking to learn more and become better prepared.
