Bunkers to Order

Post by Djorn »

Hi Preppers

I have been kicking this idea around my head for a while, and although not yet in position to start the company I thought I would do a bit of a public survey..

1, Would you be willing to purchase a bunker as a BOL or for your BOL
2, What would you be willing to pay? The Containers (a 10'x8'x8' ) costs around £1300, so on top of that you have the fitting out, dig costs extra.
3, What would you prefer, (TDTATU)Tube down, tunnel across, tube up into container, or stairs down into front of container. (FYI mine will be TDTATU)
4, Do you want it off the grid? i.e. Solar Powered LED lighting.

I think there is a market in the UK for this but I can't find any websites offering this service. Not sure about planning regs...do you need planning regs to build a Shelter?

Thanks

The biggest problem I can see with it, is here in the UK not so many people have enough of their own land to fit one, and then planning yes no doubt there will be rules and regulations to deal with, such is life with everything in the UK, as someone pointed out the USA is the land of the free, whereas we are all subjects ;)
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Firstly, Thanks for the reply.

I do agree but I only have a small garden but I could drop in a 10x8x8 container with an entrance, then cover the whole thing over again...OMG even the wife said yes LOL....I have just hit up the Local Planning office to see what the regs are.

As for subjects....yeah we even need a license to watch TV in this country...strange how channels like DAVE and GOLD are owned by the BBC and have adverts !!!! hmmmmm

off grid as much as possible and depending on the amount of land I would like an entrance away from the main living area so maybe stairs down to a large tube with a couple of heavy doors across to the main bunker with another heavy door. Also would want a back door as well

Still trying to work out a good reason to have a bunker in the UK, except to keep coal in ;)

why not just think of it as a underground shed or maybe a wine cellar that just so happens to be more secure and wont spoil your newly laid lawn , :)

thought about this myself but in a rented property its not realy do-able .

Personally I wouldn't want one. I have a tiny garden, and it is heavily overlooked. So firstly if I had something like that I wouldn't want all my neighbours knowing about it, and secondly it just seems like quite a lot of money for something that will probably end up being a bit of a nuisance and at best will only ever store the kids bikes and the hubby's clutter that he refuses to throw away. :D

Nice idea if you have land, or at the very least a large secluded garden, and the money to chuck at it... But not for me personally.

i little while back i built a root cellar from a shipping container ... its a lot more hard work than you think , its not just digging a hole a burying it, you have to think about drainage and reinforcing it ( even a few inches of soil weighs a lot and containers are designed to be strong at the edges not on the roof or sides

Unless you can do it under a cloak of invisibility, everyone will know you have it , and every tom dick and harry will look up the local planning website to see what it is , and yes you do need planning ;)
Be Prepared.
Plan like its the last loaf on the shop shelves.
Plan like its the last beer in the fridge.
