Oil Lantern bargain
I've just ordered an Oil lantern (Buy 5 get 1 free) for the princely sum of £5.48 including postage! I'm not sure how they are knocking these out so cheaply but for that price I figured they are worth a punt. What with the possibility of power cuts in the not too distant future I thought I'd get my emergency lighting in order. I'm not affiliated in any way so here's the link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HURRICANE-PAR ... 3368a3e309 I'll report back when they arrive and I've given them a test.

Re: Oil Lantern bargain
Not sure how long they'd last for anything else other than a garden BBQ scenario?
They look like a copy of the feuerhand 276 baby lantern..... A classic and quality parafin lantern, which I've bought two of in the last 4 weeks along with 25 wicks and four jerry cans for parafin.
The eBay lanterns you've bought are very cheap and a bargain for 6! But I'm not sure I'd rely on them in a real situation.... Or even for camping, there's a good chance the first thing that'll break is the glass as at that price it won't be treated to cope with the heat from the wick and then to come in to contact with rain, which Will make the lens crack.
Good luck though, at that price they're almost disposable !!!

Re: Oil Lantern bargain
is it not buy 5 and get one free, so for that price you get one lamp not five, its all in the wording...yes it says fabricated in china seen these before not very stong and rust fast sadley. are thay oil or parafin lamps? both are a tad diffrent..the fire hand feuerhand 276 baby lanterns "fire hand from germany" look better if I was to go out again and buy some more

Re: Oil Lantern bargain
Looks like your right on that, anyway, it's a start and it's still cheap. They're Oil/Parafin which is what I wanted. I'll report back on whether they are any good anyway.short circuit wrote:is it not buy 5 and get one free, so for that price you get one lamp not five, its all in the wording...yes it says fabricated in china seen these before not very stong and rust fast sadley. are thay oil or parafin lamps? both are a tad diffrent

Seen those at events..... Don't know if they buggered up due to quality or user error.
Buy one and try might be the best option
Get decent paraffin and don't run the wick too high

No, guys they're perfectly fine - the packaging says 'Superior Quality'...
Re: Oil Lantern bargain
was looking at the description and there is no sizes on it ? i was thinking while looking at the picture whats wrong with it!

they look slightly out of proportion!! don't they? the size of the filling cap to the oil tank! i am wondering if they are the mini ones that are sometimes in the pound shop garden section?
