Illegal in the UK IIRC, they showed it on one of the Ray Mears shows where he had to go to France to try it.ForgeCorvus wrote:Herbal... Excellent 'field-target' archery setup you've got there.

Comes under the Wildlife and countryside act in the UK

Thought it might be, I'm going to assume that bow-fishing gear is covered the same way as hunting tackle...... Perfectly fine to own but not to use for its intended purpose
BTW Hunting small game or birds its best to use a 'Blunt' or 'Judo' pile rather the a point or a Broadhead (in places where its legal to do so)

ILLEGAL. Full Stop. I am a lifelong angler. You have to use a rod and line( fixed or running) and the rod MUST be 5 feet or longer. Local byelaws, and fishery laws apply also. The taking of ANY animal with bow or crossbow is illegal under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.ForgeCorvus wrote:Herbal... Excellent 'field-target' archery setup you've got there.

Oh puleeease! Can we enter the realms of reality. When I saw it all going to sh!t in Yugoslavia, as far as I could tell, people in rural areas made for bigger towns and cities, or the countries borders, travelling in family or neighbourhood sized groups. They were moving away from conventional warfare (albeit a civil one (wasn't very)) in which case sitting tight isn't a good idea (neither is heading the same way as everyone else) but a lesser threat might cause similar migration that would allow some freedom of movement for someone who stayed behind. I met some people who had stayed behind holed up in basements and they generally were discovered by troops and as they were 'ok by them' they were left alone and were soon able to pick over the remains of the community and/or leave in a low-key manor.
My previous employment and single status mean I could sit it out, become more predatory or just go feral without worrying too much about protecting others. I have a selection of weapons from a ball point pen to a few knives and am quite sure I'd be safe faced with up to 3 or 4 regular people similarly equipped, but more than that or people with firearms and it's scarpering time.
A need for weaponry as defence against regular people who want my stuff would probably see me checking out the local farms after a couple of weeks, maybe less, but I'd expect any firearms still there would be in their owners hands so to a degree you've only got what you've already got.
I like the idea of a crossbow as a weapon/tool, good for hunting and defence at a distance but it's slow fire rate is an issue.
I grew up using air rifles which I think are still legal below a certain power but again the slow rate of fire makes them undesirable.
As fas as I know civilian-owned firearms in this country have a low limit for their internal ammunition, 5 or so.
If anyone has any further info on any of that I'd love to hear it though.
(that may be a bit rambling as I've had quite alot of codeine today, managed about 4 miles though)

Sorry but what's the problem with what 24942895 posted? I don't see anything to get excited about?jansman wrote:Oh puleeease! Can we enter the realms of reality. preppingsu wrote:Please remember anything you discuss about 'weapons' has to be within the law as it stands as we haven't seen tshtf yet. We do not want scoobie getting into trouble for the talk that happens on here.
Of course, if you choose to take up archery as a new hobby or buy a catapult to launch your bait into the water when you go fishing, well, you can talk about that as much as you like!
As I've said before we have to be very careful what we discuss in the forum.
The likelihood of there being no law and order is, IMO and that of others on here, fairly remote so the scenario that is being discussed is ' out of the realms of reality'.
If you still want to openly discuss the use of weapons for self defence then I suggest you consider the US forums where it is more openly discussed.
Here, we need to consider how else we can look after our family and home with crossbows, guns and knives.
Thank you!

Re: Weapons - Hunting & Defence
I like electronics it's one of my hobbys, I like messing with capacitors thay are components that are used to store an electrical charge and are used in timer circuits. A capacitor may be used with a resistor to produce a timer some can hold very high charge simple circuits and devices can be made from them...have seen the bigger ones melt screw drivers and put folks on there arse
but back to weapons there is no real need for them just give them a good telling off that should work.
depending on the time of day night attacks could be fended of by some smoke light and sound no need to be popping off rounds at all strobe, sonic sound ect can be very painful indeed smoke will affect the minds directional abilitys thats when you go out and disable them with a biro lol and remove there weapons...on a sunny day you can use a mirror to direct light to disabled line of site, one last point cable ties "large" speed lock fast in twos
