If you're going to go for a blanket, get the highest wool content you can.... It'll be heavy but warm

If you want light weight sleeping gear, get a sleeping bag

My fav. thing in the world is a Whitney blanket, but I use my '58 down bag more

You might want to take a look at Polish bed roll
That link is the bed roll and a mattress combined but you can buy the roll on its own. It's comprises a waterproof bivvi outer, wool blanket and a cotton hygiene inner. I've only slept out in the summer with mine but it was very comfy and warm.

I bought some Scottish tartan 100% wool blankets from eBay for around 24 pounds. Not the softest but pretty good. I throw it over me on the sofa when cold it's great.

hought id jump on here save starting a new thread.

I have a thing about getting a good wool blanket and have obviously looked for Hudson bay point blankets in my search

They are made in Yorkshire on licence to the company and you can only buy then in Canada, another thing made here that we cannot buy direct , hmmmm, long storey.

so after a phone call to the uk based company, the long and short of It is, they have a sub company that do wool blankets and the closest thing to the point blanket are these.
But £250, im struggling to warrent this, has anyone else come close for less money?

The one thing I would say is that I have two 100% wool utility blankets of my grannies and despite the fact that they're 60+ years old I STILL use them on top of the duvet's every winter (this removes the itch issues!) - a good wool blanket will last several lifetimes!

I suffered from the itch thing too. It's possible to wash wool in a very gentle machine cycle; 30 degrees, short cycle, short spin. Add double the fabric softener - that's the trick to getting rid of the itch. And DO NOT tumble dry. Ever. You'll end up with felt! If it won't fit in the machine, wash it in the bath and do a fabric softener soak.

As I said on another thread, I have access to pure wool waste from an industrial process. So far, I've been able to knit, crochet and peg loom it into rugs. I can also do blankets/throws/shawls. Heavy, but very, very warm. I'm working on a different way to weave it into blankets, and also on a way to braid it and then turn it into sleeping mats and round rugs.

If anyone wants more info/wants to see if we can work out a way to get some of the material from me to you, PM me. I'm happy to share the knowledge, but I don't want to announce my location on the open board.

GEE WHIZZ indeed....

But yes i am gutted that whn my Nan's house was cleared there were old scout blankets that we used to use in the garden, they had gone befor i new it had happened, these types of things are heirlooms, but i didnt spend £250 on my last car!

One day when i grow up, but there must be cheaper ones somewhere, i'm thinking of getting a knitting machine. :?
