To be fair, you are right Nick. A chimney will smoke when first lit. Also when stoked. When it is burning efficiently, you will only see the heat distortion. Good point.

I reckon the worst smell would be the dead bodies( Hypothermia) through worrying about what *we* consider *may* be a problem. I have just been out to check the goats, and I counted 11 smoking chimneys in my locale.
