Do not rely on your stream for fresh water, wtshtf someone upstream from you will stop the water and have it for themselves.....

You probably can survive for six months on baked beans... but I wouldn't go practising your firelighting technique too much :D

I've started to store Baked Beans. I wasn't really bothered about brand- then I changed my opinion.

When you are facing boring meals then you still want a little quality, at mo Costco have a pallet of 24 tins of beans for £8.89 (37p a tin).
Don't think that's too bad!

Also storing ASDA smart price Beans with sausage, I actually like them and don't really care what the sausages are made from.

Yep - millet (also gluten free). Its not cheap but maybe buy in when Holland and Barrett have a sale on. I cook it as porridge with added fruit /cinnamon and it's lovely. It takes longer and is prone to sticking (altho easier in the microwave if you want to). But you end up with a lovely creamy dish which I'd say is actually nicer than oats. I think you can do savoury dishes with it too but I havent got that far.
I store quinoa too which is another useful grain instead of cous cous.

I bought the ASDA mushy peas when they were 4p a tin. I was watching people in ASDA and they were saying "ooh 4p, that's good, I 'll get a couple at that price"
A COUPLE????? I thought stuff that and bought 200 tins.
On average we have mushy peas twice a week and use two tins at a time.
That is only 1 years supply and the best before date was 2016.
ASDA Rice pud is nice at only 12p a tin. Picked up a load of that.
ASDA spaghetti is only 24p.
Their tins of Spag Bol are only 19p and very nice too.
Tinned soup (whichever you prefer)
Branston beans are as nice as Heinz.
ASDA meatballs in tomato sauce are nice.
Buy the tins in their trays and they stack a lot better.
They usually have the unopened ones on the top shelf with all the plastic on.
Buy a single one for going through the till or the girl will rip open your lovely packaging to scan one.
If you can't get them off the top shelf and you live near a 24 hour store you can go in late at night and get them before they go out on the shelf.
Plus when they are in their trays they are a hell of a lot easier to rotate than individual tins.
Anything that just requires the addition of water is a good thing to store.
Hot chocolate drinks, custard, batter mix, cup a soups, bouillion, bovril, etc.
Pasta, beans, rice, etc.

Just keep trying different stuff and tell the other 9 people to wake up and smell the coffee.
Be lucky

Modplod you are not paranoid. Just aware and concerned. My misses sent me to see a doctor cause she was worried about me!

For some reason the general public can't understand the need for prepping on any level. I have spent a reasonable amount of money on prepping and have lots to show for it, yet the masses spend loads on insurance polices and never getting anything! Who the nutter now?

One thing I do enjoy us when the wife says Damn we've run out of bah bah, I just smugly smile and get one from my preps!

By the way the doctor said different but not mad!
We live in a unsustainable world, there must be a balance, poor people/rich people no more, only prepared people will make it!

Asda cans seem easier to stack than other brands. I can put them 2 heigh in my cupboard where ash anything say by Heinz I have no chance, so gives me more stock for my storage.

To get back on track with original reason to post topic. Baked beans are a perfect source of food but you must remember that if you are going to live off them ONLY then you will have to take Multi Vitamins to supplement the nourishment that will be missing out by not eating any meat or other veg.

As a sub point if you were just looking to loose weight there are baked bean only diets (must use slim fast or similar milkshakes to fill in the missing gaps).
