evening everyone , i was just looking through my seed catalogues and noticed james wong talking about edible dahlia tubers !
if true it would give you twice the bang for your buck as you could have a lovely flowerbed and food when the flowers die after the first frosts ?
now on no accound should anybody try to eat them until you know for sure ! apperently they were brought back with the first potatoes and used as food whilst the potatoes were grown as shrubs ? could anybody confirm this please ?
cheers andrew.

I only know that one off the telly, and she's a bit scrawny to use as a food source, as well as living quite a bit away in norwich. Couldn't we just eat the local varieties? The Mary's and elizabeths?

Yes, very much so, eat even part of one and you'll be puking your guts up. Sometimes people die if they have eaten too many or are sensitive. Never eat an onion which does not smell like an onion!Trojanhorse wrote:I believe daffodil bulbs etc are dangerous to eat to!
My house has tons of daffs courtesy of a previous owner. While they are pleasant to look at I never, ever, permit them to live if I see them anywhere near the veggie patch. Them and horsetails/marestails are always on the top of my "stop whatever else you are doing and pull them up if you see them" list.

Ground Elder.... A foul invasive weed.
Supposedly brought to this country by the Romans as a salad plant, never tried it as I only found out that it is edible after waging war on it for ten years (or so) and completely eradicating it...... And I could of got back at it by having it for lunch
