Tesco

Post by gcp1975 »

Hi all went to Tesco for the first time in ages today and filled a suitcase for a tenner !! Only went in for a "few" bits but didn't realise how cheap Tesco's everyday value stuff is compared to Asda's own brands !! curry sauce (glass jar) marked as 20p but checked out at 18p, spag bol (tinned) 19p ,carrots (tinned) 20p and baked beans 25p, never tried befor tesco's everyday pot noodles 23p (worth a go) !! I normall flit between Asda , Lidl and Iceland as they are closest to home will defo be going back for some more, some were dated 2015/2016 so at that price worth going the extra mile !!

They do cheap bars of soap that are ok... It does'nt lather greatly, and not heavily scented, but at 11p a bar you can afford to buy the whole box for the price of a 2 bar pack of of a more expensive brand.

Edit...Sorry just realised this is posted under Food, Nutrition and Agriculture.....and I am unsure of the nutritional value of said soap

Probably more than their chicken and mushroom pot noodle

I have 2 boxes of that soap - it's part of my "hygiene give away pack". As you say 11p a bar
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Went in myself this AM. Full tray of everyday baked beans and tomatoes, cooking oil, bleach(the everyday thin bleach is great for swilling the animal housing out) and fruit juices. All for a shadow over £20. Quite impressed.

I find Tesco has a lot of hidden gems, I filled my cupboard up with a lot of the above plus loads more, the foreign section has got some good cheap stuff, it helps that I live 2 mins walk from one.

You probably all know this tip, go late at night, some massive discounts to be had for the freezer, best one so far, popped in at midnight after late shift, sirloin steaks for 50p each and a massive leg of lamb down from £16 to 11p.

I bought a couple of trays of their noodles, only 11p and good fillers in any of the chilli con carne/ spag bol tins (know its not traditional but in an emergency what is tradional)?

Hi guys, I only really use Tesco for stocking up on tinned food. They have tinned red kidney beans for 15p a tin if I remember correctly. The garden peas in a tin are quite tasty even though they are the Value range. When I go in there to stock up I get what would be needed for a basic veg stew with some stock cubes for flavouring. What I have noticed is their every day value water, only 17p for two litres. It is essentially filtered tap water. The only down side is they never seem to have a shelf life of more than six months. The 5 litre Tesco own brand mineral water which is just over a quid has a two year shelf life. With the 17p bottles I have put them in the freezer to keep for longer. Hope this works. However you can buy six 500ml bottles of the same value brand water only they seem to have just under two years shelf life. Can't figure that out! I stocked up on a few tins of tuna in Tesco, they ran out in 2017. Can't go wrong.

The other good place to stock up is a poundland if you have one around, they do three tins of smedleys soup for a quid. They often have some good deals on tinned food, and at min they have the german sausauges in a jar for a quid, they have a two year shelf life. I am not the biggest fan of Lidl or Aldi.

tescos beans and sausages has loads of sausages in and their meat balls to are packed full, ideal camp food but pull top cans would be better like the lidl ones
