hand cranked sewing machines

Does any one have a hand cranked sewing machine Singer or any other maker? I went on a restoration course last weekend and resurrected a car boot find sewing machine. Brilliant sewing produced. If any one sees a machine and wants further advice please contact and I will pass on details of the course here in the West Country.

I don't need a course, but if you know anyone who sells spares for 1919 Singer machines, I'd be eternally grateful! I've got on, in perfect working order, just needs the spindle to hold the reel of thread

Oh yeah! have the family heirloom circa 1930's! Still does a good job, a squirt of light oil once in a while and a de-fuzz and all is well.

If it's still got the numbers/letters & numbers on it, you can look it up on one of the Singer websites. That's how I know my one is from 1919. It was given to me by a neighbour, who is aware of my deep appreciation of old machinery. Belonged to his mother in law, apparently!

That's the bobbin. I need the spindle for the cotton reel to sit on. The small 'stick' that screws in at the top of the machine. Bobbins I can get my Dad to machine for me

i no nothing about sewing machine s , i do how ever know engineering . can any one tell me the thread size on the part you need and the lenth and diamiter of the part and i can go out to the garage and turn you one on my small lathe .

I've got some Vernier calipers, and I'll have a stab at measuring the hole in the machine tomorrow.


Now, if you do this, then I have to send you a trade - fairs fair! So what, of all the things I make, would you like? I can send jewellery, hand made soap, hand washed, dyed, carded and spun wool, or possibly something else, if you let me know what?

i also need the pitch of the thread , i can`t see it being metric with it being so old .
