That was a good weekend, a few bits and pieces, but these are the ones relivant to here...

The Meths stove turned out to be rusted through on the bottom, i'm glad i didnt put too much fuel in to test it, the pot stand will come in handy, Not the best £2 i've spent!
The little oil lamp, £2, just need to sort out some sort of glass for it.
The 1Lb hatchet head, £2, the same guy had a 6Lb head but wanted £30, i think he thought it was forged by the gods and i might have gone for it if i could have knocked him down a bit, but it wasnt going to happen, this one will give me something to do though and its a very 'handy' size.
And finaly i found a straight razor, an 'Elsine double german hollow ground' and the small file. £1 the pair, i've got some honeing to do. :)

Just want to recommend a Sunday car boot sale in Dunton, Essex on the A127 passed Basildon. It's huge and I never fail to find something useful. Better than anything near me in Kent. :(

Munchh. Thats some good metal you've got there.
The Kent doesn't seem to of suffered the way most of them do (i.e. badly sharpened on a fast bench grinder and/or have the poll burred over having had it driven with a hammer or used as one.
I don't think you can really beat German razors (Some Sheffield makes maybe) , Elsine I've heard of and all of it good. Please don't use a sharpening machine on it (unless its got a Razor setting), most of them cut too steep and angle.

Would a Trangia burner fit ?

I've been searching the net about restoring razors and axe heads, i cant seem to find the axe head, although i'm still looking, the razor is a different story, it 'WAS' far better than it is, i chipped the edge, in was about 4mm deeper before that and very fine edge.

The Axe was one of 4, i wish i had bought at least one more, if i see him next week i will, he had 2 with handles and 3 i think that i took the best of, i think they all had 'Junior' and an 'I' stamped on them. I asume the I is actually a 1 as it weighs 1lb, but im just guessing.

I might post my restoring efforts. :D

Please do.... Always nice to see old tools brought back to usable condition
I'd of bought all of them (except the 6lb one, 30 notes!! he needs his head read.... Haggle real hard for that one)...... Mind you, I'm a sucker for Kents. They're great cutting axes (splitting is maul work) and are a joy if you do any greenwood work

So apart from a hole bunch of nerf related stuff (one happy 6 year old), I was hoping to run into the axe man that was there last week, but no luck.

This guy had 3 lamps, two english with german glass, but so rusty i could not take the chance, so the Chinese one it had to be and after a bit of a clean it looks pretty good.

Oh and a really nice bit of polished wood. ;)

And that was without me saying the lamp (my first) was £2.50 and the wood i got down to a fiver and that might seem steep but i have only ever seen one other round here and they wanted silly money. i've always fancied oneso i grabed it. off to b&q for some lamp oil tomorrow.

Those pieces of wood in that shape are highly collectable especially the decorated one which fetch a premium. And don't even expect to find a tipstaff at that sort of price. :D
